Photo Guidelines
Photos are an important accompaniment to your feature article. Think of creative
ways to show your product and/or service in use. When choosing a photo, avoid
product shots; they can make a well-written article look overly commercial by
default. If you don’t have a photo available, ARAcontent is happy to source
one for you.
Photos You Provide:
When you supply a photo to accompany your article, it must come from one of the following sources:
- A photo taken by an employee working for your company.
- A royalty-free photo you’ve purchased from Corbis, Jupiterimages, Photolibrary, Image Source, Transtock, Shutterstock, BigStockPhoto (must use special license BSP-500L), or Fotolia (extended royalty-free license).
- A royalty-free image you’ve purchased from Getty Images or Getty-owned PunchStock. Image MUST be processed under ARAnet’s Special Extended License Agreement with Getty Images. Additional fees are required for use of this license. Contact Jean Mettellus at Getty for more information at 800.462.4379.
- An outside photographer hired to take the photo. You will need to obtain the full copyright license from the photographer or have the photographer grant
you distribution rights for both print and online usage.
Additional Photos:
Two photos (that you provide) are included in the cost of your feature release. Additional photos may be distributed for $50 each. You may change a photo during distribution for $50.
Photos Sourced by ARAcontent:
ARAcontent can source a photo for you at the rate of $375 per photo. Photo selection is based on availability.
Acceptable Photo Types:
For best results, we recommend a lifestyle photo that features people rather than products. We do not accept charts, graphs, cartoons, line drawings, illustrations, video stills, screen shots, headshots, collages, book covers or any images that contain text or copyright symbols for use on our site.

Acceptable File Sizes:
- The image must be high resolution, which means 1200 pixels wide or at least 4" wide
at 300 dpi (dots per inch).
- The height limit for graphics is 1800 pixels high (or 6 inches at 300 dpi), and
no shorter than 600 pixels (or 2" high at 300 dpi). Please keep in mind that we will crop to the
6-inch maximum height if the graphic exceeds this limit.
- If the photo or graphic is not at least 1200 pixels wide, editors will not be able to use it. Please be sure that your file is sized correctly. Larger photos can be resized to fit if they are the correct ratio. (Photo ratio is 4” X 6” at 300 dpi no larger than 8” x 12”).
Acceptable File Types:
- We accept the following file types: JPEG (JPG), EPS, TIF, PICT, PDF, BITMAP (BMP), Illustrator, PhotoShop. We do not accept photos embedded into documents such as
Microsoft Word or the
