Five tech tools that can help you get into a new home faster

(BPT) - Just 10 years ago, homebuyers would have started the purchasing process with a phone call to mortgage broker or real estate agent, a drive through a desirable neighborhood and a perusal of the classifieds. In 2013, however, buying a house is a high-tech affair, with technology making it easier than ever to find and finance the home of your dreams.

In fact, nine out of 10 homebuyers use the Internet as a primary search source, and more than half (52 percent) go online first when looking for a home, according to a joint study by the National Association of Realtors (NAR) and Google. If you’re in the market to buy a house this spring, here are five must-have tech tools to make the process easier:

1. Online mortgage applications – and approvals

Real estate experts advise buyers to get approved for a mortgage before they begin shopping. Doing so allows buyers to move quickly when they find a home they want, and can make their offer more appealing to sellers. While many lenders allow borrowers to initiate the application process online, credit reviews and final approval, however, has continued to be done through slow, traditional methods. Now, the eighth largest mortgage company in the U.S., Guaranteed Rate, has upgraded its online services to allow buyers to apply for and get approved online – virtually instantly. Applicants can choose and customize a loan, submit an application, receive their credit scores from all three major credit bureaus, and receive an official approval letter that recognized the borrower’s ability to be financed by the company – all online.

On GuaranteedRate.com, customers can choose and customize a loan, submit an application and receive an official approval letter, recognizing the ability for the borrower to be financed by Guaranteed Rate.

“Despite technological advances in other aspects of the real estate industry, the mortgage application process has remained largely manual – and time intensive,” says Scott Stephen, president of Guaranteed Rate’s online division. “By automating the process, homebuyers now have access to the same tools as loan officers. The time it takes to obtain a mortgage approval has been compressed from days or even weeks to as little as 15 minutes.”

Go to www.GuaranteedRate.com to learn more.

2. Mobile apps – The mobile Internet now accounts for 15 percent of global Internet traffic, according to Business Insider. What’s more, about one-fifth of real estate related Internet searches happen on mobile devices, according to the NAR/Google study. Google real-estate-related searches on mobile devices soared 120 percent from 2011 to 2012, the study notes.

From Realtor.com (NAR’s multiple listing website) to lifestyle websites like Trulia and apps like House Hunter, homebuyers can access a wealth of real estate information, listings, news of buying trends and more via their Android-based mobile devices, iPhones and iPads.

3. Credit monitoring products – While the arrival of truly automated mortgage processes may make it easier to apply, consumers still bear the responsibility of making sure their credit scores are good enough to qualify for a mortgage. Online credit monitoring products are a great tool for getting your credit score and report mortgage-worthy. All three major credit bureaus – Experian, TransUnion and Equifax -- and a host of other financial services companies offer this type of product. Many allow you to access your credit report in real time, obtain your score, view how certain credit decisions may affect your overall score, and even receive alerts when anything new shows up in your credit report and/or influences your score.

4. Multiple listing sites – Searching home listings still remains the most common way house-hunters use the Internet to aid in their efforts. One hundred percent of the buyers studied in the NAR/Google report used the Internet to search for homes. From national sites like Realtor.com and Zillow to to the home pages of local realtors, the interconnectivity of multiple listing services allows consumers to access a broader, more in-depth database of available homes than ever before.

5. Regional/local websites – For many people, the quality of schools and security of the community are key considerations when home shopping. A plethora of websites provide buyers with ample information, including local school district websites, municipal and police department sites, local and state chambers of commerce, state education department sites, and even sites maintained by homeowners associations.

“Just as the Internet has touched virtually every other aspect of our lives, technology has truly transformed how consumers find and finance their homes,” Stephen says. “From finding just the right house to ensuring they’ll be able to pay for it, technology has made it easier than ever for buyers to get in the door of their dream homes.”

How classroom technology can benefit your child's education

(BPT) - Historically, the term “digital divide” has referred to the gap in technology levels between developing and first world countries; however, it’s truly the divide between the more affluent and the underprivileged. While the divide has a worldwide reach, it’s important to remember that the gap is growing in America, too. Improving technology in schools – and how it’s used in learning – is an important topic because it offers students a more effective way to achieve, fully preparing them to be skills-ready for a successful future.

Today, the majority of schools in America have computers of some kind. Still, many schools, particularly rural schools and those with a high percentage of minority students, lack reliable Internet access or have old computers that aren’t compatible with current software. Concerned parents, teachers and educational leaders are rallying for change.

Providing students with modern, mobile computers and access to the Internet at school and at home promotes hands-on learning that engages students. When children are interested and excited, the learning process comes naturally. Across the country, one-to-one programs – meaning one computer is supplied for each student – are gaining interest and receiving funding. Some districts have even approved BYOD programs, or bring your own device programs, that allow students to bring their own technology (i.e. laptops, tablets, smartphones) from home to use in the classroom.

These technology enhancements are creating a 21st century classroom environment that focuses on today’s students’ needs. Rather than the teacher lecturing at the front of the classroom, students are taking the lead by exploring different topics, answering their own questions, and interacting with peers and their teachers by accessing information through technology. Benefits abound: According to Project RED, an education research organization that analyzes technology in the classroom, schools with one-to-one programs have higher test scores, better graduation rates and fewer discipline problems.

Students aren’t the only ones that come out ahead – teachers benefit from technology, too. It actually enhances the teacher’s ability to connect with students, expands access to instructional material and allows the teacher to facilitate a richer, more meaningful classroom experience.

For all the benefits of better classroom technology, funding can be an issue. While adding computers, maintaining hardware and software, and funding ongoing technology support can be costly, there is also the potential to save money through improved efficiency. In fact, according to Project RED, adding effective classroom technologies can result in increased efficiency and cost reductions – even when maintenance costs are included.

For example, instructional materials contribute to this cost savings. Traditional paper textbooks can be costly and become outdated quickly. Digital content offers one effective solution to this problem by giving students and teachers access to the most up-to-date materials online, bringing the world into the classroom and often at a fraction of the cost. Online courses, assessment and professional development are additional areas where cost savings can quickly add up.

How to spearhead a technology change in the classroom

Whether you are a parent who wants computer access in your child’s classroom or you’re an educator who wants to enable an improved learning experience through better technology, here’s how you can start the conversation and make a difference:

1. Use the K-12 Blueprint. Found at www.K12blueprint.com and sponsored by Intel Corporation, this website is a free resource for planning and implementing technology initiatives in districts. You’ll find a plethora of useful information, including practical guidelines, funding advice, curriculum considerations and real-world success stories.

2. Involve the people who care. Start discussions with fellow parents, teachers, principals and even the educational board to create a vision and plan. Discuss specific reasons for the technology improvements and benefits for the students as well as staff.

3. Explore professional development opportunities. How we teach with technology is just as important as having technology in the classroom. Ensure teachers in your community have the professional development opportunities they need so their students are learning with technology in the most effective way possible.

4. Be patient to overcome challenges. Technology isn’t a one-time investment – computer maintenance, software upgrades and continued professional development are important. Providing teachers training and creating a support network can be a time commitment. Patience and persistence are key to the success of eager students.

Technology in the classroom can help close the digital divide within the U.S., but it’s up to parents, grandparents, teachers, schools and entire communities to work together to make change a reality. When used properly, technology can provide students with a stronger education, paving the way for future innovations and research.

A tech refresh: Top reasons to buy a new PC

(BPT) - At 4 years old, your child is probably adorable. But your 4-year-old PC – not so much. More than 300 million computers around the world are more than 4 years old, including one-third of American PCs, according to research by Intel. Sixty-five percent of those are bulky desktops that are so far behind in terms of technology, they might as well be wooden abacuses.

In just four short years, PCs have evolved to be faster, more powerful and lightweight, easier to use and more versatile. If you find you have plenty of time to brew coffee, prepare your cup, drink it down and start on the next while still waiting for your PC to boot up in the morning, it may be time for a new computer.

Not convinced you need to buy a new PC? Consider these warning signs:

* You spend minutes staring at the spinning hourglass while your PC struggles to download a movie.

* You lug your heavy charger brick everywhere because your PC’s battery won’t hold a charge for more than an hour

* The wires and weight of your bulky PC tie you down to using it in one place.

* Your PC freezes when running too many applications – a problem cited by 36 percent of people who owned older PCs in the Intel study.

* Your PC takes too long to boot up. Thirty-three percent complained of this problem, according to Intel.

Technology is no longer just a tool; for many Americans it’s become an integral part of their lifestyle. Mobile technology makes computing on the go easier than ever, but how do you know what device is right for you?

Technology advancements over the last four years have driven the development of thin, light and powerful PCs. New PCs have powerful processors that make them fast and responsive so things such as photo editing, HD video streaming, and gaming, run best on PCs.

In addition to new PCs, the latest generation of Ultrabook convertibles easily switches from laptop to tablet mode by flipping, folding or twisting the screen, and also have touch capabilities.

If you’re still suffering with an older, slower PC, here are some more reasons to upgrade:

* Today’s Intel-powered PCs are, on average, three times faster than PCs built just four years ago.

* An Intel-powered Ultrabook boots up in less than seven seconds. A 4-year-old PC can take more than a minute.

* Newer PCs weigh an average of about three pounds. Older ones? More than seven pounds.

* Many modern PCs are less than an inch thick.

* Battery life of newer PCs is double that of older models – up to eight hours on a single charge.

* The advent of touch-screen technology and sharper, clearer screen resolution make newer PCs more enjoyable to use.

Still not sure it’s time to buy a new PC? Consider costs. It may seem like everything these days, from gas to milk to cars, costs more. But today’s PCs cost, on average, $200 less than that 4-year-old dinosaur still sitting on your desk.
Decluttering advice for those drowning in digital chaos

(BPT) - Smartphones, tablets, desktops, laptops, e-readers and music players – most of us have more than one digital device in our lives. Juggling so many devices and trying to sync data among them can leave you feeling like you’re drowning in digital chaos.

If you’re looking to declutter your digital life, getting a handle on your music is a good place to start.

For most people, it’s not uncommon to have hundreds or thousands of music files. While that variety is enjoyable, those high numbers have some underlying consequences: first, the sheer cost of paying for those songs and albums, and second, the amount of space they take up. And if your music isn’t shareable across platforms, there’s a serious frustration factor.

A digital music subscription can be a great solution, offering a variety of benefits:

1. Cost cutting. Digital music subscriptions offer millions of licensed songs and albums, typically for around $10 per month. Weighing that price against what you’d pay for individual tracks, the savings can add up quickly. For example, a premium subscription to Sony Entertainment Network’s Music Unlimited service gives users access to more than 18 million songs from all of the major labels and many independents and costs under $120 for the whole year.

2. Access anywhere. Digital subscriptions make it easy to access music across devices like personal computers, iPhone and Android smartphones, tablets, smart TVs, gaming consoles and more. So there’s no need to buy yet another gadget to have all the music you want at your fingertips, wherever you are. There is even offline playback for Android devices so you do not need to be connected to the internet to enjoy your favorite music.

3. Keep it secure. If you’ve ever gotten a “no files found” message or lost a device, you know the panic that the thought of losing your music collection will induce. A digital subscription keeps your library safe in the cloud, so that you don’t need to fear losing it all – and having to replace it.

4. Find new music. A defining part of being a music lover is always looking for great new music. An added benefit of a digital subscription is that it allows you to explore bands you haven’t heard of before; some services also provide features to help you navigate the choices available based on your preferences. Aside from delivering all of the latest album releases, Sony’s Music Unlimited service hosts dozens and dozens of pre-programmed channels and additional channels created by user preference through My Channels.

Cut down the digital clutter and optimize your life. Take the first step by trying the Music Unlimited service – there is a free 30-day trial to get you started. Learn more at music.sonyentertainmentnetwork.com.

Trends provide guidance as technology shapes careers landscapes

(BPT) - The saying goes: success is when preparation meets opportunity. As technology continues to affect our lives, workers in today’s ever-changing labor market need to be prepared with skills to adapt and succeed in the workplace.

Job opportunities in technology are growing up to three times faster than other career fields in the U.S. Long gone are the days of a linear education and career trajectory as technology continues to reshape the world’s workplace landscapes. Nowadays, the career paths of most individuals resemble a scaffold rather than a conservative straight line.

Changes in the education and workplace landscape not only impact job seekers, but educators and employers as well. It’s estimated that by 2025, we could have 20 million jobs without enough qualified people to fill them, according to a report by Georgetown University.

Daniel Burrus, a globally renowned corporate strategist and author of six books including The New York Times and Wall Street Journal best-seller “Flash Foresight,” recently released his inaugural Certainties list, based on a scientific method aimed at providing various employment sectors with a clearer outlook of their respective futures. As a strategist, he advises a wide range of Fortune 500 firms to develop projections by analyzing trends.

Burrus’ list of Certainties, which highlights 12 technologies that will continue to transform present and future careers, uses his proprietary scientific method of separating “Hard Trends” – trends that will happen – from “Soft Trends” – trends that might happen.

Over the past five years, Burrus has collected Certainties from thousands of senior executives from every industry around the world, providing a clear picture of the direction different sectors are heading.

“The goal is to give people a road map regarding how technology will transform their careers and how to ensure they’re not caught in disappearing careers, but rather preparing and positioning themselves for the predictable changes in their current fields as well as emerging careers with real, long-term demand,” says Burrus.

According to Burrus’ Certainties list, some of the technologies that will transform our world and careers include:

3-D Web and 3-D printing

Employment for graphic artists, designers and programmers will grow as the Web-surfing experience transforms from a one-dimensional “flat” page to a dynamic 3-D experience for the user.

Additionally, the manufacturing industry will be revolutionized by 3-D printing, which will allow any size company to manufacture goods quickly, locally and at lower cost.

Gamification of education

Both employees and students will have training and teaching methods delivered to them in a highly-personalized and accelerated way, through the use of simulations and skill-based learning systems transmitted through smartphones and tablets.

Cloud services and virtualization

As more organizations maintain and store information using cloud computing, the demand for professionals skilled in information technology is expected to rise. Employees who can safeguard important company and client data will be vital to business success.

In order to meet the anticipated demands of the 21st century, individuals must reassess their skills to make certain they are equipped with the necessary knowledge to remain relevant in their field.

Burrus recently teamed with DeVry University to launch his Certainties list. He believes the institution exemplifies the kind of forward-looking curriculum development necessary to ensure degree programs adequately prepare students for the future.

“DeVry University is committed to effectively aligning our students’ academic experience with the plausible future demands of the industries in which they seek successful careers,” says David Pauldine, president of DeVry University. “As a university, we are continuously interfacing with Fortune 100 companies to ensure our educational programs prepare our graduates for current and emerging job opportunities.”

Burrus urges employers, employees and educators alike to give serious consideration to these career-transforming Certainties so that the American worker is better positioned for careers of the 21st century.
Secrets to fear-free social media use

(BPT) - Many Americans love social media, but it scares them, too. While they are reconnecting with old high school classmates, viewing photos of a colleague’s new baby and chatting with a friend about a new job, social media users are also worrying about having their identity stolen from a social media site.

That fear, however, is not stopping them from including on their profiles the kind of personal information that identity thieves love, a new study from TransUnion indicates. Nearly half of participants in the Google Consumer survey commissioned by TransUnion said they were concerned about having their identities stolen from a social media website, yet more than a third also said they included personal information such as their birth date, address, employer and phone number on their profiles.

“Social media is a great way for people to connect and exchange ideas, but social media users need to be careful about what personal information they include in their profiles,” says Heather Battison, vice president of consumer education for TransUnion. “Remember, the general rules of connecting and engaging with others online is the same in social media as everywhere else – use common sense when giving someone information.”

Social media users can better safeguard their identities with these tips:

* Less is more: Avoid giving out personal information on social media sites, such as address, phone number or your birth date. Omit this type of information from your profile. Identity thieves can open accounts and commit a number of financial crimes with just this information.

* Never leave a cookie trail: If you use a public or work computer to log into your social media accounts, do not save your password on that public PC. Beware – some social media sites default to automatically remember your password when you sign in, so be sure to check (or uncheck the box, if needed). If the site autosaves and you don’t catch it, your account may open up and be accessible the next time someone else uses that PC to visit that website.

* Lock it up: Change your privacy settings on all social media accounts to the most restrictive, which allows you to control all information that is posted. Set your profile to “private” and make sure you have to approve all friend requests, comments, photo tags, links or posts that appear on your page.

* Get creative with passwords: Create intricate, unique passwords for each social media account. Change passwords every few months.

* Avoid over-sharing: Never reveal travel plans on social media sites. If they know your house is empty while you’re away, cyber thieves could become actual thieves, and break into your house to rob it while you’re out of town.

* Teach children about social media safety: While your children may be more adept at navigating the Internet than you are, they may not fully understand the implications of posting private information, photos or potentially offensive material. Make sure your children understand and follow the same rules as you do for social media use.

* Monitor your credit: Make sure you periodically check your credit reports for accuracy and consider signing up for a credit monitoring service, which can alert you by email to changes in your credit report – a helpful way to prevent identity theft.

For more information on how to minimize your exposure to identity theft, visit www.TransUnion.com.

(BPT) - It’s no secret that today’s hearing aids are light years ahead of the hearing aids made just a decade ago. In fact, in size, shape, and technological advances, the changes in hearing aids have been nothing short of amazing. For example, new micro-processor technology has allowed hearing aids to be so tiny, they can sit on a fingertip; and at the same time, provide a remarkably natural-sounding hearing experience. So, people who need a little hearing help can get it “invisibly” and comfortably.

Another huge advancement in hearing aids is the adoption of wireless technology, which includes the category of Wi-Fi. Hearing aids are not just jumping on the wireless bandwagon; they’re actually leading the way. Wireless communication is the technology that lets consumers connect with the Internet from their computers and tablets, without wires. Wireless headphones let individuals listen to music being streamed from a computer, iPod(R) or MP3 player, wire-free. Wireless printers let you print from a computer without a physical connection, and wireless car starters can start a car from many feet away, with the touch of a button.

This is the same wireless technology that today’s most advanced hearing aids use to give hearing aid wearers many exciting new innovations.

For instance, hearing aid wearers now have the freedom to adjust their hearing aids using their iPhone(R) or Android(TM) phone as a discreet remote control. Beltone offers a free app called SmartRemote. When paired with Beltone’s Direct Phone Link 2 accessory, SmartRemote lets an individual use their phone to adjust the hearing aid volume in one or both ears, change listening settings to match their current environment, reduce background noise during a phone conversation, and much more. A person can make these adjustments with the swipe of a finger - with no one the wiser.

Direct Phone Link 2 also uses wireless technology to give hearing aid users a superb phone call experience on their iPhone(R) or Android(TM) device. With Direct Phone Link 2, a hearing aid wearer hears the phone ring in their hearing aids, even if the phone is stowed away in a pocket, purse or briefcase. They simply press a button on their Direct Phone Link 2 (worn on a shirt or lapel), to start the conversation.

Because the sound signal streams from the phone directly into the hearing aids, it’s exceptionally clear and clean. Also, because sound enters devices that have been carefully programmed for a person’s specific hearing needs, the listening experience is tailored just for them. And, people can listen to the conversation in both ears, instead of just one, if they prefer.

Another wireless advantage hearing aid users really appreciate - phone conversations can be hands-free. People with hearing loss can stay legal in places that ban holding a phone while driving. It’s also easier to multi-task during a phone call when both hands are free.

Through the use of wireless technology,hearing-aided people can now enjoy TV, stereo, PCs and other audio sources in a whole new way. When watching TV or listening to music, sound can stream from the source directly into the hearing aids. Volume can be adjusted to a comfortable level for the hearing-aided person, without affecting what others hear. And, because relay neck-loops aren’t needed, the individual can walk around the room and converse with companions - and still clearly hear the audio.

Another innovation made possible by wireless technology is a clever hearing aid accessory that helps users hear very precisely in environments such as lectures, meetings, noisy restaurants, or airports. A small, portable device is worn by someone the hearing-aided person wants to hear. The device picks up the non-hearing-aided person’s voice and streams it into the hearing aid wearer’s instruments, in real time.

This device can also be placed in front of a television at a friend's house, for example. It then streams sound directly into a person’s hearing aids, so they can hear clearly at whatever volume is comfortable for others.

Hearing aids have never been smaller in size, or better at providing a natural listening experience. And, upgrades in hearing aid technology will continue to evolve, allowing people with hearing loss to find a solution that works for their lives, and lets them hear with confidence.

Does someone you know have difficulty hearing?
Tech talk: Understanding 'the cloud' and what it can do for you

(BPT) - News headlines, commercials and chatter between colleagues – recently there has been a lot of hype around “the cloud,” but the term can be complex and confusing. What exactly is the cloud, and furthermore, what does it mean for you and the way you use technology? Although the concept feels relatively new, it’s simpler than you may think.

You’ve probably heard a lot about storing and sharing information on the cloud, but did you know there’s a good chance you’re already utilizing the cloud regularly without even knowing it? Every time you check or send an email online, you’re sending information through the cloud, in other words, through a network of servers, software and services in a remote location.

Much like connecting your television to a cable connection, you connect your tech device to the Internet to access content stored in the cloud. When you use cloud storage, what you can do with your technology devices – from desktop to tablet to smartphone – expands greatly.

The cloud isn’t just for tech elites – it can make life easier no matter how tech-savvy you are. Whether you’re heading a global conglomerate or are simply the head of your kid’s soccer team, the cloud can help streamline what you need to do online. Beyond checking email, the cloud lets you work with other people online with documents that can be edited simultaneously, store large files so you don’t have to keep them on hand, and easily access and share important photos and personal documents, like travel plans.

There are two simple ways you can start seeing the many benefits of the cloud immediately. First, personal cloud email services make staying in touch with friends, family, and professional contacts easy. Is it time you upgraded your email experience? Outlook.com is a free, personal email service from Microsoft that has tools to keep your email streamlined.

With Outlook.com you can access easy-to-use, automated tools to help you get through your inbox quickly. Set up your preferences that mirror how you live your life: bills can automatically go in one folder, important documents archived in another. You can even “sweep” out all of your old daily deals or newsletters with just a few clicks.

Spend a lot of time on Facebook, Twitter or other social media websites? Outlook.com works with your favorite social media sites. You can add contacts from your Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and other networks, so that changes like address updates in those accounts are automatically updated. You can save time and energy by chatting, updating, and even posting comments or accepting friend requests in a few clicks all from your inbox.

The second way you can experience instant benefits from the cloud is through a personal cloud storage service. Microsoft’s SkyDrive provides 7 GB of free storage which is more than what most competitors offer, and additional storage is available at rates that are also lower than most competitors. Outlook.com and SkyDrive work together, and SkyDrive works with your smartphone, tablet, PC, or Mac, so you have access to your photos, documents, and other important files anytime, anywhere, automatically.

Do you ever have a ton of photos you want to email to a friend, but you can’t because the files are too large to send all in one email? Or sometimes you just want to share those photos with specific people instead of to everyone on Facebook. Just upload the photos to SkyDrive and email the link to the people you choose! You can share photos beautifully only with the people you choose, without taking up space in their inboxes.

Another invaluable benefit to personal cloud storage services is the ability to work with others on projects from anywhere at any time. With SkyDrive, you get free Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote in your browser, so multiple people in different places can work on the same document, at the same time. Plus, you get to choose who can view and edit these documents.

No matter how simple or complex your computing needs, the cloud can help keep you more organized, save time, save space in your inbox or on your desktop, and sometimes it just plain saves you from losing an important document or email.
Tips for setting up your home theater viewing space

(BPT) - Few things are more disappointing than turning on your new TV for the first time only to discover the picture doesn’t look as good as it did in the store. Or the audio balance is so far off that you feel like you’re listening from inside a tunnel.

The home entertainment center concept has evolved dramatically over the past decade, from a single “tube” TV and a DVD player to full-blown, high-definition multi-media centers. The technology today offers a more immersive experience. And with a proper set up, you can enjoy the full potential of the pride and joy of your living room.

Technologist and industry veteran Tom Campbell, who helped first launch high definition (HD) TVs and played a key role in the recent emergence of “Ultra HD,” has some tips for setting up the ideal viewing space for your home theater:

Control lighting

“While darkness is great in a big movie theater, it’s not always practical for your home theater. You’ll need to manage lighting in the room to ensure the best picture quality, whether you’re enjoying a family movie with the kids or watching the big game with friends,” Campbell says.

Choose adjustable lighting; place lights on a dimmer so that you can adapt the lighting level depending on what you’re watching. Outfit windows with shades that can easily be closed to further darken the room. For times when the lights will be on, be sure to position lights so that they won’t create glare on the TV screen. And, if possible, avoid placing your screen in direct light from outside, such as opposite a window.

Maximize TV positioning

Believe it or not, the TV’s height or the angle at which your eyes meet the screen can actually affect how good the picture looks. If you’re putting the TV on a stand, position the screen so that your eyes are level with the bottom third of the display. Generally, the center of your screen should be no more than 42 to 52 inches above the floor. If you don’t already have your TV, for the widest viewing angles you want a plasma or an LED TV with IPS technology, like LG, which ensures a good picture for off-angle viewing (both horizontal and vertical).

“A TV over the mantel or fireplace may look nice, but that height can mean an awkward angle for maximum viewing quality,” Campbell says. “Viewers may have to crane their necks to see well and the picture quality might be compromised.” An adjustable wall mount can help you adapt the angle of the TV so you still have a straight-on angle and good picture. They can also help with different viewing arrangements or lighting conditions, based on the time of day.

Find the optimal viewing distance

The best quality equipment can leave you disappointed if you aren’t watching from the optimal viewing position. Sitting too close to a large-screen “FULL HD” TV can make the picture appear grainy. Too far, and you’ll lose the immersive feeling a big screen provides.

Opinions vary on what’s the best distance from which to view a screen. According to Brian Markwalter, senior vice president of research & standards for the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA), a simple way to calculate the optimal viewing distance is to multiply the diagonal size of your TV by two or three. “That number will tell you how many inches you should sit away from the screen for the best possible picture. Remember, though, to measure from the screen to the point where your eyes would be, not the back or front of the furniture you’ll be sitting on,” he says.

Keep in mind that in addition to the size of the screen, the resolution will affect your calculations. “Generally speaking,” Markwalter says, “you’ll want to sit farther away from a larger screen, but if it has a higher resolution you can sit closer.” For example, a “4K” TV like LG’s 84-inch Ultra HD TV offers four times the resolution of typical HDTVs, meaning more detail, so viewers get a crisp, clear picture from as close as five feet. If you want a large screen in a small space, an Ultra HD TV is an ideal solution.

Take care of sound quality

Campbell advises that, while you may love the look of your hardwoods and hate to cover up the view from the picture window, bare floors, walls and windows can make your home theater sound as if it has an echo or the sound is too sharp and bright. On the other hand, if the room is heavily padded with wall-to-wall carpeting, heavy drapes and lots of cushioned furniture, you may think sound seems muffled. A mixture of different surfaces and materials can help ensure the best sound quality.

“Position the center speaker channel in the center of the screen, either above, below or directly behind. Additional surround-sound speakers should be placed around the room – to the side, above or even behind the audience,” explains Campbell.

With a good-quality TV and some proper space planning, you can ensure your home theater delivers the best viewing experience possible.

Toddlers and tech: reasons to share your smartphone

(BPT) - A lot of things change when you become a parent. The shows you watch, the restaurants you go to and the concept of sleep as you once knew it all evolve when your family structure transforms from a “me” to a ”we.” And increasingly, personal gadgets like smartphones are following the same trend.

“One day I looked at my phone and realized I had almost as many apps on it for my daughter as I did for myself,” says Kat Holmes, principal designer for Microsoft’s Windows Phone. “My smartphone had stopped being just mine.” In fact, a recent study conducted by Babycenter.com shows that 75 percent of moms regularly hand over their smartphone to their kids.

But even with smartphone use among kids on the rise, concerns remain over how to keep curious fingers from navigating where they shouldn’t. This concern is what inspired Kat and the team at Microsoft to build new parent-friendly features into the company’s latest Windows Phone products. The most notable is Kid’s Corner, a space within your phone just for kids where they only have access to the apps, games, music and videos selected for them. So you can hand your phone over and let them explore while your personal stuff is safe and password protected. Kid’s Corner also disables browsing, calling and purchasing, so you won’t have any surprises on your phone bill later.

In addition to working full-time at Microsoft, Kat is also a mother of two small kids so she’s familiar with the challenges of creating balance in a busy week. “Tech plays a role in helping our family stay connected – keeping track of our schedules, our to-dos and each other,” says Kat. “And yes, sometimes letting my kids watch a video on my phone gives me a few moments of quiet to catch my breath.”

We asked Kat for a few more tech tips for creating balance as you share your smartphone with your kids.

*Partner with your kids to curate their mobile experience: To make mobile time fun, set aside time with your kids to choose new mobile content together, including new apps, music and videos. You’ll have peace of mind knowing what your kids are looking at, while giving them a sense that there is a space that’s just for them.

*Smartphones can be a simple way for kids to create and share: Smartphones aren’t just about apps, they’re also a way for kids to capture and share the world from their point of view. “My kids like to make little video messages for me and post them for me to find later,” says Kat. “They can’t accidentally send or upload photos from Kid’s Corner, so I know everything they make is just going to stay on my phone.” For other creative outlets with tech Kat suggests Kid’s Draw Free – an ad-free app that lets kids create and share their everyday masterpieces.

*Technology is more than entertainment, it can be educational too: A recent Qualcom survey found that 74 percent of parents have downloaded a mobile app for their kids. While many apps out there are solely for fun and entertainment, there are hundreds of great educational apps that can help kids hone their skills – everything from drawing to spelling to memorizing. A few of Kat's favorites include:

Animal Memory – with pictures and sounds of wild animals and farm animals, this matching game helps kids hone their memory skills

Connect the Dots – this hand-drawing free app also teaches kids how to read the names of the pictures they’re drawing

*Turn that fighting into a lesson on sharing: As a mother of two, Kat has learned that sometimes one phone isn’t enough, noting, “With more than one kid in the room, it’s pretty common to have fights over whose turn it is. Try uploading a stop watch or timer like the Six Stop Watch app to your device and encourage your kids to engage in 5- to 10-minute increments, and then hand it over to the next in line.”

To learn more about the family-friendly features available on Windows Phone, including Kid’s Corner, visit windowsphone.com.

Innovations inspire high school girls to become next generation of female innovators, change the world through STEM

(BPT) - When the high school class of 2014 graduates from college in five years, more than 8 million jobs will be available in the fields of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). For students today, STEM is their future.

Innovations driven by STEM are shaping today’s economy. Though STEM accounts for a majority of job growth in the U.S., the number of students enrolling in relevant degree programs in college to fill these positions continues to decline, leaving a gap of skilled professionals. Women, in particular, are underrepresented in STEM. While women account for nearly half of all filled jobs nationwide, only a quarter of STEM-related positions are held by women.

Even with the known gap, many women are pioneering the industry, showing young girls they too can be successful in STEM. They are leading the charge in bettering the world by developing innovations and technologies such as global, online crowd-sourcing platforms that allow supporters to give funds from mobile devices. Others are advancing alternative energy products that deliver electricity, water and other basic resources in developing countries.

To help bridge the gap and ready the next generation of women innovators, many organizations support initiatives to introduce students, specifically young girls, to the importance of STEM. DeVry University, for instance, has its annual HerWorld program.

“HerWorld was created 16 years ago to educate high school girls about STEM and careers in STEM,” says Donna Loraine, provost/vice president of Academic Affairs at DeVry University. “Our goal is to show girls how they can make a difference in the world through these fields.”

A recent study by the Girl Scout Research Institute found that more than 80 percent of high school girls surveyed expressed interest in considering a career in a STEM field, including engineering, information technology and software development. This is a positive outlook, as positions in STEM are becoming available more rapidly than opportunities in any other field.

HerWorld empowers young women to succeed alongside their male counterparts by participating in confidence-building activities and hands-on workshops. They also hear inspirational stories from real, female role models working in STEM fields.

This year, nearly 7,000 girls from high schools across the country will attend local events during National HerWorld Month in March. Emmy-Award nominated actress Mayim Bialik, renowned for her roles on television series Blossom and The Big Bang Theory, is partnering with DeVry University to further the mission of HerWorld and inspire these girls by sharing her personal STEM journey – balancing her acting career while earning her Doctorate of Philosophy degree in neuroscience from UCLA.

“When I was a teenager, my biology tutor on the set of Blossom inspired me to think about science in a way that showed me that science was made for girls, too,” says Bialik. “It gave me the confidence to pursue a degree in the sciences. I want to motivate and encourage girls to work hard to improve their math and science skills and their perceptions about those fields, regardless of their career goals.”

Online security tips and reputation management for job-hunters

(BPT) - When you’re job-hunting you go to great lengths to stand out among the hundreds – even thousands – of applicants for a single open position. But while you’re working to catch an employer’s eye, have you considered the importance of protecting your information from unwanted attention? Or the need to manage the online reputation you do want employers to see?

Most job searches today begin online. In fact, Beyond.com recently found that 77 percent of job-seekers are using mobile apps to access the Internet in their search. And unemployed people who search for jobs online get a job 25 percent faster than those who only search offline resources, according to a joint study by the Universities of California and Colorado.

Searching online can be a great way to find your dream job, but it also requires you to take extra precautions to protect your personal information and to manage your online reputation. Enterprising identity thieves and scam artists may take advantage of personal, identifying information posted on job boards and online resume sites. And with social media making potentially embarrassing information and images widely available, it’s important for job-seekers to manage what potential employers may find if they were to perform an online search of a candidate’s name.

Protecting your personal information

When you post a resume on a job board, the information is usually public and viewable by anyone who wants to see it. Some websites allow you to control what is viewable and who can see it, limiting access only to potential employers who have registered with the site. Others do not restrict who can access resumes. It’s important to know the privacy policies and settings of any employment website where you will post your resume or apply for jobs.

Consider how much personally identifying information you will share. Information such as your name and past work history may be essential, but keep in mind that no potential employer should ever ask for your Social Security number or financial information during the initial phases of your interaction. If a response to your resume comes with a request for your SSN or account number, be very skeptical and ask why this information is needed so early in the application process.

While conducting your online job search, it’s important to keep an eye on your credit and financial accounts, because that’s where identity fraud will first show up. Consider enrolling in an identity theft detection, protection and resolution product like www.ProtectyMyID.com. The product is designed to help people minimize the damages caused by identity theft and help members safeguard themselves from identity theft.

Protecting your current job

Consider how your current employer will react if someone from your company comes across your active resume online.

While your current employer likely won’t fire you just for posting your resume on a job site, the situation can – at the very least – be uncomfortable. Before you begin circulating your resume or posting on job boards, be sure you know how your current employer would react if your information was found online. If you wish to keep your job search private, make sure to review the privacy settings of any job search websites you’re using.

Conduct your search as honorably as possible, sending resumes, emails, etc. on your own time – and not when you’re supposed to be working for your current boss. Likewise, maintain a separate email address that you use solely for your job search; never use a work email address during a job search.

Protecting your prospects

By now you’ve likely read or heard media reports of prospective employers searching social media sites for information on job applicants. It’s important to manage what employers may view in social media. If you haven’t already done so, restrict access to your social media accounts so that your posts and photos can only be viewed by people you’ve granted permission to. Be sure to set privacy settings to their most restrictive.

Privacy controls notwithstanding, remember that when it comes to the Internet there’s no such thing as 100 percent private. A good rule of thumb to keep in mind when using social media is if you would be embarrassed to have your mother or boss view the content, don’t post it.

Finally, before you apply for a job, check your credit report. A growing number of businesses are asking job candidates to agree to credit checks. While the National Conference of State Legislatures says eight states currently restrict use of employer credit checks in the hiring process, and many more have legislation pending, you may still be asked to submit to a credit check.

It’s your decision whether or not to agree, and to determine if protecting your privacy is worth the risk of losing a job opportunity. Knowing what’s on your credit report in advance can help you make a more informed decision.

Top technology trends for 2013 that make your life easier

(BPT) - Whether you are a college student, working parent or empty-nester, modern life has never been busier. Luckily, a variety of technology innovations are dramatically affecting the way we live, helping us streamline our routines, reduce stress and maximize each minute of the day. Which new technologies are proving to be indispensable?

Here are the current top technology trends that can help you manage your hectic life and enjoy it a little bit more:

Trend 1: Home security in the palm of your hand

Keeping your home and loved ones safe is a top priority, and now new technologies make it easy to stay informed and protect your property and family even when you’re not there. How would you like alerts sent instantly to your phone or computer if a window breaks, a door opens or a pipe bursts? If you have a Honeywell home security system, you can get all this and more when you stay connected through Honeywell Total Connect Remote Services.

Remote services like this use advanced software technology to keep you informed about your property through alerts to your computer, smartphone or tablet. Kids come home early? You can see who is at your door via online video and unlock the door remotely. Keep children and elderly relatives safe by setting up alerts for restricted areas – you’ll know when the liquor cabinet has been opened or a family member leaves the property.

Trend 2: Energy efficiency goes on auto pilot

What was once only imagined in fictional TV shows like the Jetsons is now reality. Homes are quickly becoming more automatic, allowing homeowners to use energy and resources efficiently, which reduces their carbon footprint as well as their utility bill. Lighting, heating, cooling, water use – just about everything your home does can be regulated automatically.

Heating and cooling can easily be automated with a programmable thermostat. Tie it to your Honeywell alarm system so when you set the alarm, the system recognizes you’ve left the house and makes the necessary temperature adjustments. Controlling lighting is simple now too, thanks to remote technology. Forget to turn off the basement light and shut the garage door when you left this morning? Now you can verify through Honeywell Total Connect Remote Services on your smartphone and fix in a few clicks.

Trend 3: Entertainment and learning made easy

The way we watch TV is changing thanks to DVR technology that allows viewers to record shows and watch them when it’s convenient. Plus you can fast-forward through commercials. A DVR can be set to record multiple shows at once and you can even watch your recordings in different locations, whether that’s a TV in another room or on your smartphone while traveling to another state.

How families read and learn is changing too. Today, people of all ages are opting to read ebooks. Rather than trekking to the library, you can now “borrow” books by downloading them online from the comfort of your home. In addition to ebooks, there are literally millions of apps that entertain and educate – today your toddler may learn colors or ABCs on your smartphone or tablet.

Trend 4: Cooking is fun in a futuristic kitchen

The kitchen is the heart of a home, and now technology is making this space more efficient than ever. Smart refrigerators now include LED screens with Wi-Fi capabilities. Make grocery lists, access recipes, listen to music and more, all directly from your refrigerator.

Ovens are smarter too – this year you can get an oven with a preprogrammed guide that takes the guesswork out of cooking popular dishes – simply select the recipe from the menu, place the dish inside and the oven does the rest, intuitively cooking the food to perfection and then switching to warming mode until you’re ready to eat.

These technology trends are booming in popularity for good reason – they make modern life easier, enabling us to run our households and day in the most efficient manner possible. Plus, new technology can be a lot of fun to use, too.

Try something new and refresh your technology habits

(BPT) - Are you using the Internet as if it’s still the year 2000? If you answered yes, you’ve got some catching up to do. Technology has come a long way in the last 13 years; new shortcuts, alternative products and simple tools available today can help you accomplish tasks faster – saving you time and increasing your efficiency online.

Many people don’t realize this, but old tech habits can actually create more work for you. There is no better time than the present to refresh your technology habits and try something new. Forty-five percent of people say they feel refreshed when they try something new and appreciate a change of pace, according to a survey by Bing and Impulse Research. The following tips can help motivate you to update the way you use technology.

* Upgrade your search skills. Not every search engine is created equal, with some offering different features and new ways of finding information. Bing provides the best and most comprehensive information from across the Web, your social networks and experts, so you can save time searching and start doing. In fact, in blind tests people prefer Bing over Google for the Web’s top searches.

And, according to a recent online survey by Impulse Research, nearly two thirds of people would rather give up Google than their morning coffee, so making a change is easier than you think. Take a chance this spring and join the nearly 25 million people who have visited the Bing It On Challenge site at bingiton.com and see if you prefer Bing over Google.

* Update the way you get your news. Are you still reading multiple sites every morning, scrolling through each one to find news that is relevant to you? If so, it may be time to ditch the grueling routine and give yourself a technology upgrade. An overwhelming 93 percent of people say they’re open to trying new things occasionally or frequently, survey results found. So tomorrow, try something new and subscribe to an RSS feed to quickly identify the news you care about most without having to sort through all the rest. Whether it’s attending a new fitness class, tasting exotic cuisine or trying a new search engine, change can be exciting and add an element of spontaneity to your life. Now is the perfect time to take a risk, break out of your comfort zone and try something new – you might just surprise yourself.

* Refresh your online password(s). Password protection is an important, but often annoying, part of our daily lives. With 12 percent of men saying they would rather sit in traffic than try something new, it’s no surprise many people still use old passwords and the common “1234.” In order to break the bad habit, create a different password for all of your online accounts and store them in a password manager tool. These tools can even help you create passwords that are nearly impossible to crack. Taking a few minutes to try something new can lead to efficiency and better process.

By upgrading your Internet habits and trying something new, you may discover happiness and enjoyment you never knew possible - and learn a few new things along the way.

Quick tips for getting the most out of your smartphone camera

(BPT) - Today, the majority of adults have a mobile phone, and we’re using it for far more things than simply making phone calls. According to a 2012 report from The Pew Research Center's Internet & American Life Project, of the 85 percent of American adults who own a cellphone, 85 percent use their cellphones to take photos.

Smartphone cameras are quickly replacing basic digital cameras for snapping photos on the go, and for good reason. Capturing a memorable moment is easy with your cellphone at your side, but if you aren’t sure what you’re doing, you may end up with fuzzy, dark or distorted pictures. To help you get the most out of your smartphone’s camera capabilities, Stephen Sneeden, Xperia product marketing manager at Sony Mobile Communications, offers some expert tips:

Tip No. 1: Get to know your device
Most new smartphone cameras offer multiple camera functions, effects, settings and options. It’s important to learn what’s available on your phone so you don’t miss a beat. Visit the manufacturer’s website or check out tutorial videos on YouTube – many phone makers now make these available to consumers for free.

Tip No. 2: Know when to use certain functions – and when to turn them off
While your smartphone camera may have a flash, zoom and other features, sometimes those functions won’t be optimum for the conditions in which you’re shooting. For example, turning off the flash may help prevent glare, bright spots and red-eye in certain situations. Zooming may cause an image to degrade or blur; you may want to shoot the entire image and then use editing software to crop it for the portion of the image you want to focus on.

Tip No. 3: Consider an upgrade
Technology is ever-evolving, and smartphone cameras are constantly being improved. If you’ve had your phone for a while and aren’t happy with the photos it takes, it may be time for an upgrade. When shopping, analyze key camera elements like megapixel count, sensor quality, user interface and ease of use. Most smartphones have 8 megapixel, primary cameras. The Xperia ZL from Sony outshines that standard with a 13 megapixel camera and HDR (high dynamic range) for photos and videos.

Tip No. 4: Make the most of HD technology
High resolution capabilities are a significant advantage for smartphone videographers. Look for cameras that offer Full HD recording. This function gives you the ability to capture details that translate well on larger HD screens like that of a TV.

Tip No. 5: Download free photo apps
Enhance your phone’s photo capabilities with some of today’s best photo apps that cost absolutely nothing. The award-winning application Snapseed (iOS, Android) allows you to adjust saturation, color levels, brightness, contrast as well as edit and enhance styling with a variety of filters. Quickly crop, edit and fix flaws with Adobe’s Photoshop Express (iOS, Android). Of course, social media junkies love Instagram (Android, iOS) because it’s a snap to share photos across social networks like Facebook, Tumblr and Twitter.

Tip No 6: Don’t forget photo basics
The principles of good picture-taking remain the same, no matter what kind of camera you use. That means it’s important to keep the lens clean, carefully frame the shot, fill the frame with your subject, make sure the image is in focus, pay attention to lighting, and – when photographing kids and pets – get on the same level as your subject.

Every 60 seconds, our networks have to process 240 million emails, 1.3 million videos watched on YouTube and 100,000 people sending a Tweet – and in 2013 these numbers will be even higher. By 2015, the number of network devices is expected to double the world’s population, making our demand for network bandwidth even larger. Companies like Intel are creating solutions for network providers that will boost performance to handle the increasing network traffic.

High-tech homes make everyday living simpler

(BPT) - If you find yourself wondering how you ever got along before your smartphone, laptop and GPS, you’re not alone. Technology is so much a part of how we go about our days that we often take it for granted. However, in many cases, houses haven’t caught up to the same technological standards as the gadgets people carry with them 24/7. But that’s all about to change, as new ideas begin to revolutionize the way we view our homes.

Technology can do two things: First, it can make everyday tasks simpler and faster. Second, it can enable us to do things that weren’t possible before. So when it comes to your home, having technology on your side can make a big difference – in terms of time, energy and money savings. If you want your home to join the world of high-tech living, consider these solutions:

* Entertaining made easier: Part of the fun of owning a home is inviting friends and family to come over. Because everyone has a busy schedule these days, planning and hosting a party needs to as easy as possible. With the help of some smart new audio systems, setting the mood with music is a snap. Bluetooth-streaming stereos like iLuv’s MobiRock let you control the music from wherever you are, right from your smartphone – no more having to leave your conversation to go turn the music up or down, or switch to a new track. The Aud 5, also from iLuv, features a dock that accommodates Lightning, the next generation connection port on the latest iPhones and iPods. Since you can charge your device while using Bluetooth to control it, there’s no worry about the music stopping in the middle of your party.

* Staying secure: Protecting belongings and family in the home has been a priority since time immemorial, but now there are far better ways to do it. While everyone wants protection, in the past state-of-the-art home security technology has been well out of many homeowners’ budgets. But that was then – today, protecting your home is becoming much more affordable, and the average homeowner can install high-quality security cameras that make it easy to always keep an eye on your property. Polaroid’s line of Wireless IP security cameras include both indoor and outdoor models, can be operated via computer or smartphone and even let you send snapshots via email. Whether you just want to check in while you’re at the office or during a weekend getaway, security cameras make it easier to know that your home is safe.

* The automated home: It’s inevitable – a few hours into what’s supposed to be a relaxing vacation, you’ll wonder, “Did I leave the lights on?” or “Were the window shades left open?” The stress of not knowing – and not being able to do anything about it – might soon be a thing of the past. Reasonably priced home automation systems that allow you to take care of those little household chores remotely are already available. TaHomA, from Somfy Systems, enables you to schedule and supervise window coverings, lighting and thermostats. Using an iPad, iPhone or computer, you can make adjustments from within or outside the home in just a few clicks.

Technology has changed virtually every facet of business and communication – it only makes sense that our homes will be the next frontier of innovation.
Give your small business a social facelift

(BPT) - Small businesses that adopt online marketing strategies see significant business benefits, ranging from improved campaign performance to higher return on investment (ROI), according to a recent study conducted by Forrester. However, small businesses are likely still favoring newspaper advertising and direct mail, which are time-intensive and costly.

Consumers, however, are now spending more time online than ever before: the average time spent online by U.S. residents is 32 hours per month. They spend a large portion of that online time connecting with friends and family as well as businesses.

There is no better time than now for business owners to take a fresh look at how best to take advantage of social channels to reach consumers in a relevant way. For example, 150 million people visit Facebook pages (home to brands and businesses) every day, where they share word-of-mouth recommendations. With social platforms, business owners can listen, respond, take part in real-time conversations with their customers, and see how these recommendations drive sales.

Lolly Wolly Doodle, a North Carolina-based online retailer that creates personalized, monogrammed children’s clothing, went straight to social media to reach the right audience and increase business traffic. “We really built a community on Facebook, so we’re able to listen to consumers and talk to them,” says company founder Brandi Temple. “The very first time we posted something we got immediate response, people sending in orders faster than we could do production on them.”Temple discovered that social media was the marketing channel that was growing the fastest and, as a result, shifted resources accordingly.

Millions of business owners have seen big business growth through social marketing. Below are a few tips to enhance your business’ presence on social media and more effectively reach the right audience to grow sales in 2013.

1. Build your social hub

A business’ social profile, such as a Facebook page, is the central hub for any business and it’s free and easy to set up. Fill out business hours on the page, then people can easily see when you're open (there's a green dot on your page when you're open). Also, put your page’s URL on in-store materials – receipts, napkins, brochures, etc. to increase the number of people who can become fans of the page. These are all free ways to get the word out about your business.

2. Engage with your customers

Create content that will keep your audience interested and coming back for more. Post quality content regularly by listening to what customers have to say and making sure posts are relevant to your audience. Post at least two to three times per week to stay relevant to the people who are fans or followers. Mix up the content with engaging photos and videos. Be timely by posting about current events, holidays or recent news.

State Bicycle Co., a bike manufacturer based out of Tempe, Ariz. that specializes in limited edition bicycles, used Facebook to frequently host photo contests on its page, and the contest winners received prizes including a new bike. They also encourage fans to like posts to see a sneak peek of new products.

3. Boost your results

After engaging with your customers, amplify your results by using social ad offerings geared towards small businesses.

If you’re on Facebook, promoted posts are an easy way to reach more people with your important messages. Promoting a post turns your posts into ads, right from your page, ensuring that more of your audience sees your posts. Promoted posts can be targeted according to gender, age, geography and other factors to reach the best audience.

Local businesses ranging from restaurants to salons to retailers can all take this opportunity to get a much-needed social facelift. Regardless of the industry or budget, now is the time to consider social as an integral part of your marketing strategy. Any business owner starting with these three tips will be on the way to building strong relationships with customers, reaching new people and, most importantly, driving sales.
